| All veterinarians who do dental work will perform routine extractions. Extractions of large teeth in large dogs can sometimes be a challenge. This right upper canine required a gingival flap. |

| Feline Stomatitis/LPGS |
| The treatment for LPGS is full mouth dental extractions. This is a delicate and exacting surgical procedure because if any teeth are incompletely extracted the disease will not resolve. Therefore, dental radiography is imperative to verify that all dental tissue is extracted. |

| Other types of oral surgery: |
| Fracture repair |
| Fractures of the maxilla (upper jaw) and mandible (lower jaw). These can be challenging because in the end there must be perfect occlusion. |
| |
| Oronasal fistula repair |
| This open communication between the mouth and inside the nose is caused by severe periodontal disease usually involving the upper canines. Quite common in Dachshunds. If the upper canines are extracted there must be complete closure of the alveolus (socket) to avoid the possibility of a fistula. |
